North Sea & Western Europe

These cruises are normally short break, short cruises and taster cruises. They are also often good last minute deals. Sailing mainly from Southampton, they can go to Bruges, Guernsey or to Hamburg. Take a look at the options.

Short Breaks – Long Memories

The Channel Islands are not part of the UK or the European Union or the Commonwealth of Nations. They are not even part of the British Overseas Territories. the islands are just off the French coast of Normandy. They claim to be Crown Dependencies and make the UK responsible for their protection, but they do not form part of our systems or taxation which is why tax excites live there. The later may be why they continue to exist. They are Jersey, which is the largest of the islands; and the Guernsey of which Alderney, Sark and some smaller islands are a part of. They have a total population of about 170,000 and both Jersey and Guernsey are often on short and near cruises. English and French are spoken. The UK pound is used though they have their own versions of the pound.

Hamburg had the largest Jewish community in Germany before the second world war. There are many commemorative cobblestones (Stolpersteine).

Some buildings preserved from the concentration camp that was based at Neuengamme now serve as a memorial – in total contrast there is the Wunderland. The model railway HAS absolutely HAS to be booked in advance and do it early, our film shows how to get there. If you are on a tour with it included it will guarantee entry but your time there will be limited by the tour. It is a must, whether you like models or not !

The Reeperbahn is not near the centre, it may be bear where your ship docks. MAP HERE.
